Traveling west on Hwy 70, the 7th of August, I was reminded just how much Kansas has changed in the last 37 years that I have lived here. The wind farms have changed the landscape for sure. Progress, in some people’s minds - a good change and others - not so good. Whatever your opinion, it is change nonetheless. Through the years, Kansas County Appraisers have come and gone, others are still in the same county they were working in when they started and still others are just starting their mass appraisal career. Wherever you are in this process, you have and will see change. KSCAMA is a thing of the past and Orion is in full swing and there seems to be a love hate relationship with the system. It has evolved even from the start of its origin and will continue to do so. Change is the only constant that we can rely upon. We at McCully and Associates are working hard to make those changes a little easier for you as a county appraiser and your employees. The KANSAS STATEWIDE COMMERCIAL SALES DATABASE can do just that. We invite you to check out this tab on the website and look the program over. We will be happy to discuss any questions or concerns you may have. The program is currently being tested by some of the counties across Kansas and it is our desire to have this available when fully developed, at a reasonable fee, for every county that is interested. If your county is interested in participating in the testing stages, please let us know. Commercial sales are a necessity for analysis, hearings and just general knowledge of what is occurring in your region and across the State. My brother-in-law works on road construction and was training a young man in his early 20’s. This young man had come from a life in the Eastern United States and had always lived in a BIG city. They were working in Eastern Colorado at the time and it was pretty windy (as most of us can relate). The young man made this very serious comment to my brother-in-law: “I sure wish they would turn off those windmills. No wonder it is so windy out here.” Yes, the young man truly believed what he was saying. Keep smiling, it will make someone believe you care, or at least wonder what you are up to. Della
